Ocean Institute Grand Opening2002 : Grand Opening

2002 September 30, - OCEAN INSTITUTE CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF NEW OCEAN EDUCATION CENTER AN ENTIRE WEEKEND OF GRAND OPENING FESTIVITIES The long-held dream of the Ocean Institute to establish a significant interactive ocean education and research facility, twenty years and $16.5 million later, has come true. Three years of planning and 19 months of construction have yielded a world-class teaching facility like no other. On October 18th, 19 and 20th, 2002, the Ocean Institute will celebrate its official Grand Opening, title sponsored by Merrill Lynch. The first group of students, however, was welcomed on October 1st as the facility opened its doors to the future of experiential education in Orange County.
