Specialized Weekend Programs
Birthday Parties
 The Ocean Institute is pleased to offer a unique location and environment for our guests to host a child's birthday on the weekends. We only schedule one party per weekend day to allow you and your guests plenty of time to explore the Ocean Institute and participate in as many activities as you wish. Please note that the host/hostess of the party is 100% responsible for the organizing, managing & running of the event - we provide the location and the rest is up to you.
When and Where
Weekends between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. by reservation only. You will be assigned a designated area to hold the festivities for the day - please plan for set-up and clean-up time. Your group may spend as much time exploring the Ocean Institute during the day as they would like during our business hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., however, we ask that your party is concluded and the area is cleaned up by 2:30 p.m.
The Facility Use Fee Includes the Following
- An indoor room, with aquariums, tables and chairs for a private participant gathering
- An Instructor assigned to your group
- Two 3' x 5' banquet tables (to place presents, cake, et cetera)
- Use of refrigerator to store food/cake if needed
- Use of ice machine
- Use of the Children's Theatre for viewing a movie (you provide movie if desired)
- Private Story time or Discovery Tank session with an instructor
- Craft for children to make
- All day access to open learning centers, animal tanks & interactive exhibits
Private Seafarer's Guided Expedition Aboard Pilgrim
- You may also choose a private Seafarer's Guided Expedition on the Pilgrim for an additional fee of $25 (only available most Sundays)
- The Expedition includes a living history tour of the vessel, plus an activity such as gunnery, moving cargo or laying aloft on the yard. (Activity depends upon the instructor's discretion based on weather and the age of children)
- Private tours are only available on certain dates and times, so please arrange the tour at the same time you schedule your reservation
Decorations, Additional Equipment & Alcohol Policy
You may decorate the event space (theme must be approved by the Ocean Institute) and bring in additional equipment (children's tables & chairs, beach chairs, blankets, et cetera). Due to environmental concerns, no balloons, confetti, streamers, or piñatas are allowed on site. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED!
Set-Up and Clean-Up
The host/hostess is responsible for the set-up and clean-up of the event. A trashcan will be provided for you and we ask that you please leave your area clean when you are done. Remember to schedule enough time for your party set-up and clean up during the hours of your reservation (9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.).
Supervision of Children
Please note that you are 100% responsible for providing appropriate and adequate supervision of children in your party during the entire visit at the Ocean Institute. You will assume all liability of children in your party.
Cancellation Policy
If in the event you need to cancel your birthday party reservation, you must do so at least 14 days before the scheduled date to receive a full refund. If you cancel less than two weeks in advance you will not receive a refund.

Scout Troop Programs
 We have a variety of field trip options for your Scout Troop. Choose from our various school programs, our Tide Pooler Tuesday program, or our public tours given on Thur. and Fri. afternoons at 3:30 PM.
Please call 949-496-2274 for more information on these options: reservations required. Scouts can also visit our weekend program Saturdays and Sundays
10 AM to 3 PM. Admission is $6.50 for adults and $4.50 for children (3-12 yrs).
