in the Ocean Institute!
Every year the Ocean Institute hosts over 110,000 Kindergarten through 12th grade students in a variety of hands-on, California State Standards of Education-based field trips. As you begin to plan your field trips for this year, we would like to tell you what we have to offer. The Ocean Institute will be happy to attend any school meeting to discuss the quality and exciting educational experiences available through our programs.
In addition, we understand that this next year will be challenging for schools to run field trips, however, WE ARE HERE TO HELP. Here's how:
We can come to you and provide your teachers and parents with a presentation on our educational programs
We welcome the opportunity to have you come observe one of our educational programs in action
We can offer you and your group complimentary meeting space here at the Ocean Institute to help you plan for 2008-2009
Our program directors will gladly provide you with a behind-the-scenes tour of our facility and answer any questions you might have about our programs
As a participating educator, you are also invited to join the Ocean Institute's Weekend Program for FREE, for one full year.

A Trip Back in Time: Meet the Native Californians - December 6th, 2008
Travel back in time to visit the world of the Native Californians, years before Europeans even set foot in Orange County! A guest lecturer will introduce you to the daily lives of local Indian tribes, culminating in a living history presentation around our campfire.
A Day With Whales - February 21st, 2009
Spend the day investigating Marine Mammals off the coast of Dana Point. The majestic and sometimes elusive Pacific Gray Whale migrates along our coast on the way to the lagoons of Baja. With a little luck, we may also see dolphin, seals and sea lions.
Pirate Adventure Sail- April 18th, 2009
Teachers and their families are invited for a day of adventure on the high seas! Experience the thrill of sailing a tallship as you discover the real pirates of Dana Point. Hoist sail, fire the cannons and fight off pirates during this three-hour. family-fun afternoon aboard the Spirit of Dana Point. Refreshments included.
